One of my goals by the end of my MBA is to complete the McDonough School of Business Community Fellows program by volunteering a minimum of 100 hours of community service.

The purpose of the McDonough School of Business Community Fellows program is to foster a culture which embraces and rewards community service.  Service to others is central to Georgetown University’s mission, and this program recognizes those students who have made such service a personal priority.

Students must complete at least 100 hours of community service between new student orientation of the first year and April 1 of the second year in our program. The requirement is fulfilled by volunteering unpaid service hours that benefit any 501 (c) (3) organizations and/or other education institutions outside Georgetown University.

If there are any non-profits out there that would like to put my social media and PR skills to good use, please feel free to review my portfolio and résumé. You can also contact me at monicawong530@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

My boyfriend called yesterday with news about Portishead coming to NYC on October 4th and 5th to perform at Hammerstein Ballroom. I immediately checked my calendar and face palmed myself when I saw that it was on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Why? Why?! Why?!?!?! Out of all the days out of the week, why did it have to be on the days when I have class? And why did it have to be the week right before finals?

I suddenly had flashbacks of my undergrad years where anytime anything socially exciting was about to happen, I’d be smacked in the face with a 20-page paper or a class presentation. Grad school probably wouldn’t be much different. Better get use to it now.

Looks like I’ll have to wait another 10 years for Portishead to come to NYC again. Le sigh…

If you haven’t already heard, I’ll be starting my MBA at Georgetown University this coming fall. Tomorrow marks T-3 weeks until the start of my graduate school program, beginning with MBA Boot Camp. I didn’t expect to be breaking a sweat this early on but I guess I was wrong.

If you haven’t already heard,

I’ve been back and forth between NYC and DC this past month looking for a place to call home for the next two years. My heart is on Dupont Circle. Georgetown offers a free shuttle bus to campus so my broke behind can save on transportation fees. And also because I’m a 24-year old New Yorker who can’t drive, which isn’t an anomaly in NYC.

Aside from apartment hunting, there are a few loose ends to tie up before I start this new chapter of my life.

  • Purchase short term health insurance since my insurance as dependent under my dad doesn’t kick in until January 2013. (Thanks, Obama!)
  • Order the required textbooks for the fall semester, which adds up to about, oh, $600.
  • Harass the financial aid office to ensure all my loan applications and approvals are in order.
  • Rent a U-Haul pickup truck to lug all my things down to DC. (I’m a little skeptical about this. I’ve read one too many reviews on how terrible the pick-up, drop-off and customer service is at U-Haul facilities in DC.)
